USDT on Tron: contract, finality, fees and monitoring
USDT on Tron is the largest single deployment of Tether's dollar token, holding 92.47 billion USDT (50.7% of USDT in net circulation) on 27 October 2026. A transfer is final once its block is solidified by 19 of Tron's 27 Super Representatives, typically in about 1 minute; fees are paid in energy and bandwidth, with TRX burned when an account has not staked or been delegated enough, and balances can be read per address with the token's balanceOf call or TronGrid's TRC-20 balance endpoint.

The token
- USDT on Tron is issued by Tether International, S.A. de C.V., a company incorporated in El Salvador and authorised as a stablecoin issuer by El Salvador's National Commission of Digital Assets (CNAD). source
- As of 27 October 2026, Tether's transparency data shows 94,245,475,626 USDT authorised on Tron, of which 1,777,121,451 are authorised but not issued and 0 are quarantined, leaving 92,468,354,175 USDT in net circulation on Tron. source
- Tron's 92.47 billion USDT was 50.7% of the 182.49 billion USDT in net circulation across all chains on 27 October 2026, the largest share of any chain. source
- Tether defines 'authorised but not issued' as tokens it has created that are not outstanding, and says it typically updates its tokens-in-circulation data daily. source
- Tether's Q2 2026 attestation, prepared by BDO as of 30 June 2026, reported total assets of US$187,751,426,411 against total liabilities of US$183,641,897,215, a reserve buffer of US$4,109,529,196. source
- Tether publishes reports on its reserves quarterly, and an independent accounting firm prepares a report on each one as of the quarter-end. source
- Only verified Tether customers can have USDT issued or redeemed directly, with fiat paid to a bank account in the customer's name. source
- Tether's fee page sets a minimum acquisition or redemption of 100,000 USD, a redemption fee of the greater of US$1,000 or 0.1%, and a one-off verification fee of 150 USD in Tether tokens. source
- Tether lists TRC-20 on Tron among its currently supported protocols. source
- Tronscan reported 77,763,198 USDT holder addresses and 2,380,699 USDT transfers in the previous 24 hours on 27 October 2026. source
The chain: finality and fees
- Tron block slots are normally scheduled every 3 seconds, rotating across 27 elected Super Representatives (SRs). source
- A Tron block is solidified once at least 19 of the 27 active SRs have produced a block at that height or above, typically in about 1 minute on mainnet. source
- Tron nodes can switch branches only above the solidified height; once a block is solidified, that history cannot be replaced. source
- Tron charges two resources: bandwidth covers the byte size of a transaction and energy covers smart contract computation, so a TRC-20 USDT transfer uses both. source
- Each activated Tron account receives 600 free bandwidth, which replenishes over 24 hours; energy has no free quota and is obtained by staking TRX or receiving delegated energy. source
- If an account lacks enough energy for a contract call, TRX is burned to cover the remainder; if its staked and free bandwidth cannot cover a transaction's full byte size, TRX is burned for the entire bandwidth cost. source
- On 27 October 2026 the Tron mainnet chain parameters set the burn price at 100 sun (0.0001 TRX) per unit of energy and 1,000 sun (0.001 TRX) per unit of bandwidth; both rates can be changed by governance proposal. source
- A contract call's fee_limit caps the caller's total energy spend, and the chain parameter getMaxFeeLimit currently caps fee_limit at 15,000 TRX. source
- Tron's dynamic energy model raises the energy cost of heavily used contracts once their recent consumption passes a threshold, up to a maximum of 4.4 times the base cost under current parameters. source
Issuer controls
- The USDT contract on Tron exposes addBlackList, removeBlackList, destroyBlackFunds, pause and unpause functions, along with issue, redeem and deprecate (which points the contract to an upgraded address). source
- Tether's Terms of Service reserve the right to freeze Tether tokens, to blacklist any address holding them where it suspects a prohibited use, and to bar transactions from or to particular addresses. source
- Tether's Relevant Information Document states that Tether may freeze, burn or block the transfer of Tether tokens under its Terms, and that at the request of law enforcement, regulatory or government agencies it may take steps to attempt to freeze tokens held in external wallets for which it does not hold the private keys. source
- Tether reports frozen tokens on its transparency page as 'quarantined': tokens frozen at their last reported address, which at Tether's discretion are excluded from net circulation. On 27 October 2026 quarantined USDT on Tron was 0. source
Monitoring float on this rail
- TRON's developer docs tell applications to treat a transaction as final only after its block is solidified, and to read from the SolidityNode endpoints (for example /walletsolidity/getnowblock and /walletsolidity/getblockbynum) rather than the chain head. source
- Before crediting a TRC-20 transfer, confirm that receipt.result is SUCCESS via /walletsolidity/gettransactioninfobyid, and process Transfer events only from token contracts you have approved, such as TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t. source
- Tether's integration guidelines treat USDT on every supported chain as equal and interchangeable, one token for one token, so balances across chains can be summed one for one. source

Reading balances by API
| Provider | What it does | Source |
|---|---|---|
| TronGrid TRC-20 balances (GET /v1/accounts/{address}/trc20/balance) | Returns all TRC-20 balances for one address from TronGrid's indexed data; filter with contract_address set to the USDT contract and loop over each treasury address, paging up to 200 balances per call. | source |
| TronGrid account info (GET /v1/accounts/{address}) | Returns account data including TRC-10 and TRC-20 holdings; the only_confirmed parameter restricts results to confirmed data. | source |
| TRON HTTP API triggerconstantcontract | Calls balanceOf on the USDT contract as a constant (read-only) call for each address; works against TronGrid or a self-hosted node with vm.supportConstant enabled. | source |
Custody options
| Provider | What it offers | Source |
|---|---|---|
| BitGo | Supports USDT on Tron (ticker trx:usdt) in custody and self-custody wallets, in multisig and MPC, hot and cold; its Tron Gas Tank funds TRX for token consolidation from receive addresses (BitGo cites about 15 TRX per token consolidation). | source |
| Anchorage Digital | Lists 'Tether on TRON' (USDT_TRON) among its supported tokens; Anchorage states that asset support varies by legal entity, jurisdiction and service. | source |

Frequently asked questions
When is a USDT transfer on Tron final?
When the block containing it is solidified, which needs at least 19 of Tron's 27 Super Representatives to build on it. On mainnet this typically takes about 1 minute. Before that point, a block can still be replaced by a competing branch.
What does it cost to send USDT on Tron?
A TRC-20 transfer uses bandwidth and energy. If the sending account has not staked or been delegated enough of either, TRX is burned instead, at 100 sun per unit of energy and 1,000 sun per unit of bandwidth under the chain parameters on 27 October 2026. Heavily used contracts can cost up to 4.4 times the base energy under the dynamic energy model.
Can Tether freeze USDT held in our Tron wallet?
Yes. The USDT contract on Tron has addBlackList and destroyBlackFunds functions, and Tether's terms reserve the right to freeze tokens and blacklist addresses. Tether reports frozen tokens as quarantined on its transparency page.
How do we redeem USDT for dollars?
Only verified Tether customers can redeem directly. Tether sets a 100,000 USD minimum and charges the greater of US$1,000 or 0.1% per redemption, paid to a bank account in the customer's name.
