Column: balances, prefunding and reporting
Column (Column N.A.) is a nationally chartered US bank that gives fintechs and payment companies API access to ACH, Fedwire, FedNow, RTP, book transfers and SWIFT international wires, often holding client funds in an FBO account in Column's name. Clients track balances through the bank account API (available, pending, holding and locked amounts), daily settlement reports in CSV, JSON or Parquet, monthly CSV and PDF statements, webhooks, and a dashboard Viewer role or View Only API key.
What Column does
- Column N.A. is a nationally chartered bank built for developers, offering ACH, wires, real-time payments, checks, lending and card issuing through an API. source
- In the Payment Origination setup, a Column bank account in Column's name holds funds for the benefit (FBO) of the client's customers, with Column's ledger as the system of record. The client signs a Third-Party-Sender agreement. source
- Column operates its own SWIFT connection for sending and receiving international wires, and its API can return the raw SWIFT message for each transfer. source
Coverage
- Column lists more than 130 currencies for international wires; some currencies require a minimum USD notional of 25 or 100 USD per payment. source
- Realtime transfers run over both the FedNow Service and the RTP network 24/7/365, with a per-transaction limit of 10,000,000 USD on each. Column picks the rail the receiving institution supports. source
How funds are held and prefunded
- Each platform gets two root accounts automatically: an overdraft reserve account that covers negative balances on overdraftable accounts, and a program reserve account in which most money movement use cases must hold a percentage of volume set by Column. source
How to see your Column balance
| Channel | What it gives you | Source |
|---|---|---|
| API | GET /bank-accounts/{bank_account_id} returns the account with a balances object holding available_amount, pending_amount, holding_amount and locked_amount, plus currency_code and status. | source |
| API | GET /bank-accounts/{bank_account_id}/history returns one summary per day (credits, debits and closing balance for each balance type) for the latest 366 days, once a platform reporting time zone is set. | source |
| API | GET /bank-accounts/{bank_account_id}/activities returns statement-style line items, newest first, each with the account's running balance after it posted. | source |
| report | bank_account_transaction and bank_account_summary settlement reports come in CSV, JSON and Parquet. They are generated daily after midnight in the platform's reporting time zone, or on demand through POST /reporting for ranges of up to 93 days, and webhook events such as reporting.bank_account_summary.completed signal when they are ready. | source |
| statement file | Column produces monthly statements for every open account, in CSV and PDF, covering 4:01 PM PT on the last day of the prior month to 4:00 PM PT on the last day of the statement month. FBO subledgers roll up into one consolidated statement, and a reporting.bank_account_monthly_statement.completed webhook carries the download links. | source |
| portal | The default Viewer role in the Column dashboard can create reports and view and export data but cannot move money or see API keys, webhooks or platform settings. | source |
| read-only key | API keys can be set to View Only, which allows viewing all account activity but not changing accounts or initiating transfers. Access to reports and statements is a separate on or off key permission. | source |
Regulation
- FDIC records list Column National Association (FDIC certificate 58224) as an active, FDIC-insured national bank chartered and supervised by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, with total assets of 1.77 billion USD at 30 June 2026. source
