Thunes: balances, prefunding and reporting
Thunes is a cross-border payments network that lets money transfer operators, banks, wallets and payment service providers pay out to mobile wallets, bank accounts, cards and stablecoin wallets in 140 countries through one API or Swift connection. Senders prefund currency balances with Thunes (in fiat, or in USDC or EURC for eligible members) and track them through the Money Transfer API v2 balances, balance movements and reports endpoints.

How funds are held and prefunded
- Thunes accounts are pre-funded; for US ACH payouts the docs state that the effective deadlines are the pre-fund cut-offs, approximately one hour earlier than the ACH window times. source
- The quotation source amount is the amount in funding currency that is deducted from the partner's balance with Thunes. source
- Each balance object carries a credit_facility value, and v2 calculates available as balance minus pending plus credit_facility. source
- Transactions are rejected with status 30500 REJECTED-INSUFFICIENT-BALANCE when the pay-in partner's account balance is insufficient. source

- United States: Thunes Financial Services LLC (NMLS ID 2450368) is registered as a Money Service Business with FinCEN. Thunes states it holds 50 US money transmitter licences, and its US licence list covers states as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. source

Call GET /v2/money-transfer/balances. It returns one object per currency with balance, pending, available and credit_facility, where available equals balance minus pending plus credit_facility.
How do I reconcile movements on my Thunes prefunded balance?
Use GET /v2/money-transfer/balances/{balance_id}/movements one day at a time (to_date must be within 24 hours of from_date). Each movement shows its type (for example PAYOUT, PAYOUT_FEES, REVERSAL or TRANSFER), the transaction ID and the running balance. Daily and monthly account statement reports can be listed at /v2/money-transfer/reports and downloaded through a signed URL.
Can I prefund Thunes in stablecoins?
Yes, for eligible members. Thunes introduced USDC-powered liquidity in October 2024 and added EURC prefunding in August 2026 on Ethereum, Solana, Base and Stellar.
