Why this matters for prefunding
When Guatemala banks or payment rails close, a top-up sent to a local payout partner may not land until the next business day. Remittance demand often rises around the same holidays. Fund the corridor before the closure, sized for the closed days plus your normal top-up lead time. Check your corridor runway.

What to watch
Highest-risk window: Holy Week 2027. Banks close at midday on Wednesday 24 Mar and stay shut on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 Mar, then the weekend, so batch ACH and branch funding are unavailable from Wednesday afternoon until Monday 29 Mar. Year end is the second: half day on Thursday 24 Dec, closed Friday 25 Dec, the year-end bank closing on Thursday 31 Dec 2026 (the SIB calendar lists it both as an afternoon closure and as a day with no public service, so do not plan payments for it), closed Friday 1 Jan 2027. Banks follow their own calendar, approved by the Junta Monetaria and published by the Superintendencia de Bancos, which adds bank-only closures (Bank Employee Day, Dia de la Raza) and drops Holy Saturday; the 2027 bank calendar has not been published. ACH Inmediato runs 07:00 to 21:00 on holidays but is limited to Q20,000 or US$2,500 (per transfer at Banrural, per day at BAC Credomatic), so larger payouts need funding before the closure. A bill presented to Congress on 11 March 2026 proposes making all of Holy Week and the whole of 24 and 31 December paid holidays.
