Launching payments in Thailand: the stack

By Polynopsis team · Last updated

Paying out in Thailand means crediting baht to Thai bank accounts or e-wallets through a commercial bank or a Ministry of Finance licensed money transfer agent, with PromptPay running 24/7 and BAHTNET settling high-value transfers on working days only. Cross-border payment companies typically use payout networks such as Nium, Thunes, dLocal or Airwallex, hold baht in a Non-resident Baht Account at a Thai bank (capped at THB 200 million at the end of each day unless the BOT's NRQC scheme applies), and can trade USDT and USDC against baht on SEC-licensed exchanges such as Bitkub and Orbix.

Funding and prefunding THB payouts

Size the prefund to your runway target with the corridor runway calculator and the Thailand holiday calendar.

Launch checklist

  1. Plan: launch volume, the prefund sized to your runway target including weekends and holidays, the contracting entity and the funding route.
  2. Open accounts: shortlist payout partners and a local banking route from the layers above, and prepare the onboarding pack.
  3. Set up: read access to every new balance, a runway target with alerts, and the corridor in your daily reports.
  4. Go live: the first prefund and a test payout, then daily monitoring.

Polynopsis turns this into one plan with named approvals, then shows every Thailand partner, bank and wallet in one live position. See how a corridor launch works.

Frequently asked questions

Who can pay out inbound remittances in Thailand?

Foreign exchange licensees appointed by the Minister of Finance: commercial banks with foreign exchange licences and authorized money transfer agents, which need a Thai company with at least THB 100 million paid-up capital.

Can a foreign payment company hold baht in Thailand?

Yes, in a Non-resident Baht Account, but end-of-day balances are capped at THB 200 million per non-resident across all onshore banks. Cross-border payment service providers in the BOT's NRQC scheme are exempt from that limit.

PromptPay runs 24/7 including weekends and holidays. BAHTNET operates 8.30 to 17.30 on working days, and the BOT plans to extend its hours in stages.

Are USDT and USDC usable in Thailand?

They can be traded as base pairs on SEC-licensed digital asset exchanges since 16 March 2025, but transfers abroad for payments associated with digital assets need prior BOT approval.

Is there open banking for reading Thai account balances?

The BOT's Your Data regulation of October 2025 starts with individual deposit account data sharing by the end of 2026, among BOT-supervised providers only.
