What to watch
The Bank of Thailand lists 18 financial institution holidays for 2027 and moves weekend holidays to the next Monday. The longest closures are four days: Thursday 31 December 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027 (New Year's Eve and New Year's Day) and Saturday 1 to Tuesday 4 May 2027 (Labour Day substitute and Coronation Day). Songkran closes banks for three weekdays, Tuesday 13 to Thursday 15 April 2027. Friday 31 December 2027 starts another closure over the New Year weekend; 1 January 2028 falls on a Saturday and the 2028 list sets any substitute day. BAHTNET, interbank bulk payments and cheque clearing stop on these days; PromptPay keeps running 24/7. The government and the Bank of Thailand can add special holidays at short notice, including holidays limited to one area (16 October 2026 in Bangkok, announced in June 2026). The Islamic Bank of Thailand closes on Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, and branches of all banks in Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, Satun and Songkhla close on both Eids and on Chinese New Year when they fall on a weekday.
