Ecuador has 18 bank or public holidays listed here between November 2026 and December 2027. Over the year-end peak (1 December 2026 to 15 January 2027) the dates to plan around are: Mon 7 Dec 2026 (Fundacion de Quito (Quito only)), Fri 25 Dec 2026 (Navidad (Christmas Day)), Fri 1 Jan 2027 (Ano Nuevo (New Year's Day)).

Why this matters for prefunding

When Ecuador banks or payment rails close, a top-up sent to a local payout partner may not land until the next business day. Remittance demand often rises around the same holidays. Fund the corridor before the closure, sized for the closed days plus your normal top-up lead time. Check your corridor runway.

What to watch

Highest-risk window: early November. In 2026, Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 November join the weekend for a four-day break (31 October to 3 November); in 2027 the rest days are Monday 1 and Tuesday 2 November (30 October to 2 November). Carnival (Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 February 2027) and Good Friday (26 March) are the other long weekends. Article 65 of the Labour Code moves most holidays to a Monday or Friday, but 1 January, 25 December and Carnival Tuesday never move. The government also suspends working days by decree, as for Friday 20 November 2026 (Decreto Ejecutivo 507), while requiring banking services to continue. Local holidays close branches only in that city: Quito on 7 December 2026 and 6 December 2027, Guayaquil on 26 July 2027. For the 9 October 2026 holiday the Superintendencia de Bancos told banks to keep services available through their channels, with minimum staff. The SPI settles in three cuts on business days only, so USD transfers to Ecuadorian accounts ordered on a holiday settle on the next business day.
