Why this matters for prefunding

What to watch
RITS, the RBA's settlement system, closes on weekends and on eight holidays when they are observed in both NSW and Victoria: New Year's Day, Australia Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, King's Birthday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, including their additional days. In this period that means 25 and 28 December 2026, 1 and 26 January, 26 and 29 March, 14 June, and 27 and 28 December 2027 (Anzac Day 2027 falls on a Sunday). Sydney-only holidays (the Anzac Day additional day on 26 April, the NSW Bank Holiday on 2 August and NSW Labour Day on 4 October 2027) do not close RITS but shorten its sessions and are not AUD FX settlement dates. Victoria-only holidays (Melbourne Cup, Victorian Labour Day and AFL Grand Final Friday) leave RITS open. Highest-risk window: Christmas 2027, when RITS is shut for four days in a row, from Saturday 25 to Tuesday 28 December, including the weekend. Easter 2027 shuts them from Friday 26 to Monday 29 March. Other states have their own holidays (for example Queensland's and Western Australia's King's Birthday dates), which do not close RITS. NPP payments keep settling 24/7 through the RITS Fast Settlement Service, including on holidays.
