Why this matters for prefunding
When Jordan banks or payment rails close, a top-up sent to a local payout partner may not land until the next business day. Remittance demand often rises around the same holidays. What to watch
The weekend is Friday and Saturday; banks work Sunday to Thursday, 8:00 to 15:30 per the CBJ holiday list. Highest-risk window: Eid al-Adha, expected from Arafat Day on Saturday 15 May to Wednesday 19 May 2027, which with Friday 14 May shuts banks for six days in a row. Eid al-Fitr is expected from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 March, so banks reopen on Sunday 14 March. The Central Bank of Jordan confirms each closure by circular, sometimes only a few days before (the Eid al-Fitr 2026 circular came out on 16 March for a closure starting 20 March), and the Prime Minister can move a holiday that falls on the weekend, as with Labour Day 2026. CliQ runs 24/7 for transfers up to JOD 10,000, but RTGS-JO and ACH-JO run only on bank working days, so large payments wait for the next working day. Christian employees of banks get days off for Palm Sunday and Easter (5, 12 and 13 April in 2026) while banks stay open.
